PRESIDENT'S CORNER

April is a busy month for us here at Border City Squares! There are lots to be done and lots of fun to be had!

St. Patrick’s Day Party - We had a great time on St. Patrick’s Day! Lots of good food and great fun! It was neat to see Ed and Patty working together on the stage! Also a special thanks to Corinne for cueing some rounds for us! Thanks to all who brought goodies to eat and also to those that came early to help set up and those that stayed to clean up!

Convention time is here! - I want to encourage all our September class members to come and enjoy the convention! Ask anyone from the club, it is always a lot of fun! You can go for both Friday and Saturday or for just one of the days. Whatever works best for you! Also there is a trail-in dance on Thursday night and a trail-out dance Sunday. There are several club members planning on going, some staying there and some driving back and forth. So if you want to go but don’t want to drive let us know and we can, likely, find you a ride down! Let’s all head to Sturbridge on April 25 & 26!

Class Completion Party - It’s time to party!! We want to celebrate the hard work that the September class has done all year. The Party is on April 21 and is for EVERYONE! Bring some finger foods to share please. There will be some ceremony, some foolishness (but not too much, don’t worry) and plenty of dancing from 7pm – 10pm. As usual our new Mainstream dancers will attend free of charge. Everyone else will be asked for a donation of $5.

Annual Meeting -
The very next week, April 28th will be the Annual Meeting. The January class will meet as usual, 7pm – 8:30pm. At 8:30pm we will begin the meeting. I am asking that everyone please try to attend this meeting. And I mean everyone, September class, January class, club members that come regularly on Monday nights, club members that we don’t see on Monday nights! We want to see a growing club that is fun to be a part of, to do that we need everyone’s opinions! Major topics for the evening will be who the club wants for a caller next year and election of Club Officers. We only have a few officer slots signed up for so far. Please ask if there are questions in your mind about any of the positions! We are a team that works well together. Each officer is responsible for getting their job done but that doesn’t mean that they have to do everything themselves. If someone can’t do something another will volunteer to help.

I hope all club members will be at Litchfield Swinger’s last dance! This is Friday, April 4th, it is a Mainstream dance. They’ve been around a long time; let’s help them go out on a high note! Looking ahead Cloudbuster’s in Peterborough are also having their last dance on Friday, May 9th. They’ve been in existence for 40 years and there is one couple still active that was part of their second class!!

As we are seeing other clubs folding it shows us, that much more, how important it is to participate in the club, however each of us can. Border City Squares is celebrating our 45th Anniversary on May 10th. Please help out in any way that you are able to make this a great success!

Quick note, I’m still looking for a place to have a summer party!

The next board meeting is the Annual Meeting, as mentioned above, at the Horsepond Fish and Game Club Monday April 28th at 8:30. Please come!

Happy Dancing!

March 8 – Class Ball – St. Patrick’s Day Party was the theme of our March dance. Our September Class did a great job of hosting this dance. The hall was filled with wonderful St. Patrick’s Day decorations. We want to thank all those who helped with the setup –Penny Guild, Wayne Griffin, Mary Raymond, Cecilia Kendig, Preston Walsh, Pauline O’Connor, Steve White, Louis Buck and Dottie & Clay Todd. We also thank everyone who brought food and stayed to help clean up afterwards. This was a class dance with our own Patty Greene calling.

We had 8 squares in attendance with 2 dancers from Firesiders, 10 from Heel & Toe, 15 from Wolf Rockers, 2 from Jesters, 4 from Bradford Country Squares, 6 from Single Squares, as well as 24 Border City Dancers.

Our next dance is Saturday, April 12 and will be a Plus Dance with Don Bachelder calling and Brigit Maguire cueing. The theme for this dance is Animal Magnetism and will be hosted by Kathi Butt and Harli Thoene. Setup time will be at 12:30 pm on Saturday for anyone who would like to help. We appreciate all the help from those who take time from their Saturday to come and help. The more volunteers the quicker we set up.

45TH ANNIVERSARY DANCE: Anyone willing/wishing to help with this dance, whether it is with food, decorations, etc., should see or call one of the following people: Anne-Marie Boucher, Cheryl Palucchi, Vivian Thompson or Mary Raymond.

Banner Chair Report Harlinda Thoene

March 1, 2003: We went to Fire Siders to raid their banner at this class level dance. Those supporting the club were Dave and Mary Raymond, Tammy Dorris, Steve White, Clay and Dottie Todd, Pauline and Bob O’Connor, Chris Howard, Joe McClintock, Amy Bollenbach, Karl Moore and Sue and Gene Dorr.

March 8, 2003: BCS hosted Heel and Toe for a raid and Fire Siders to retrieve their banner.

March 16, 2003: We went to SeaCoast Region to retrieve our banner. The showing was, unfortunately, poor. Those supporting the club were Chris Howard, Joe McClintock, Tammy Dorris, Wayne and Priscilla Griffin and Harli Thoene. SeaCoast members were kind enough to give us our banner in spite of not having a full square.

March 29, 2003: BCS retreived our banner from Silvarados in Haverill, MA to complete a first-time exchange. This was a plus dance with rounds and a couple of A1 tips. Since Silvarados are just getting their club going, we received a courtesy banner for coming to their dance.

Future Raids and Retrievals:

April 5, 2003: BCS will be retrieving our banner from Concord Coach in Concord, NH. This dance is a Plus level dance with Shawn Cuddy calling and Jo Yakimowski cueing.

April 12, 2003: BCS will be hosting Turkey Town Trotters for a raid.

April 19, 2003: BCS will be raiding Heel and Toe in Manchester, NH. This is a mainstream/plus dance with Patty Greene calling and Phil Gatchell cueing.

May 3, 2003: BCS will be going back to Concord Coach for a raid. This is a mainstream dance with Don Bachelder calling and Sandi Simmons cueing.

May 10, 2003: BCS will be hosting Heel and Toe and Concord Squares for retrievals and Single Squares for a raid.

May 16, 2003: BCS will be retrieving from Single Squares, Woburn, MA. This is a Mainstream dance with 2 Plus tips. Jim Schell will be calling and Birgit Maguire cueing.

Please note that the carpool leaves the Kiosk at the Nashua Mall, Broad St., Nashua at 7PM for each of these raids and retrievals. Please sign up on Monday nights or call me if you are planning to attend any raids or retrievals ESPECIALLY if you are interested in the carpool.

Saturday, May 10th Dancing from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Border City Squares will be celebrating 45 wonderful years filled with memories to numerous to mention here. With so many of our fellow clubs having to close their doors because of the lack of new dancers, we at Border City Squares are very fortunate to have a club that is still prospering.

We would love to see ALL the members of our club join us to celebrate 45 years of memories. Reminiscing the old days and looking forward to the future with new club members.

Take a look in your photo albums and bring a blast from the past with you to the dance. I am sure there are lots of pictures out there; some that we can share a few laughs over and maybe a few that we would rather not remember.

The committee is working very hard so mark your calendars and come prepared to take a walk down memory lane. We hope to see all of our past, present and future members come on May 10th to help us start creating some new memories as we move forward toward our 50th.

We appreciate all those that are bringing food to our regular dance buffet, but we would like to make this buffet extra special. Mary and Vivian are keeping a list of the food for the buffet table so if you would like to contribute one of your specialties, please call Vivian or Mary.

Thank you, and hope to see a lot of familiar faces from the past.
